With many years’ experience working in obstetrics and gynaecology in Southland and Dunedin Hospitals, Dr McKinnon is very happy to help you with any women’s health issues. Having worked with many of the regions’ consultants he can quickly refer you if required to exactly the right specialist or subspecialist.

  • Paediatrics/Children’s Health

Dr McKinnon has spent many hours working in the children’s ward of Southland Hospital. This makes referrals and other liaison that much easier for us. Whether it is immunisation, ears or sore tummies we can help. We are all parents at Mountain Lakes Medical.

  • Immigration Medicals

Many doctors may see these as a chore. We see them as a fascinating window into other cultures! Frequently they serve as a starting point to looking after other areas of your healthcare. You will need to bring your passport. We charge between $150-$240 depending on the patients age. Try us, you’ll like us!

  • Travel Medicine

We provide advice, vaccinations and pharmaceuticals to make your trip a safe one. We want you to make it back alive.

  • Injuries and Musculoskeletal Problems

These form the basis of many of our consultations. We liaise closely with the on-site physiotherapists and chiropractors, as well as with other physiotherapy practices in Queenstown and orthopaedic surgeons. When it comes to sporting and musculoskeletal injuries, we’ve probably been there ourselves!

  • Skin Checks

We employ polarising dermatoscopy to evaluate your moles and other lumps and bumps.

  • Minor Surgery

We can easily remove most of those skin lesions of concern to you or to us.

  • Other Areas

Sexual Health

Mountain Lakes Medical offer a comprehensive sexual health service at both our practices. Our services include the following

  • Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STI’S)
  • Contraception advice
  • Insertion and removal of contraceptive devices including IUD’s and implants
  • Pre fertility counselling
  • Contraception options post baby

For appointments for a standard STI check you can make these with one of our friendly nurses. It is $38.00 for someone who is enrolled and $70.00 if not enrolled. Lab tests might incur an additional cost which will be discussed at the appointment.

If you are wanting to discuss your options regarding an IUD or implant you need to make a GP appointment to discuss to see if it is suitable for you. This will be $55 if you are enrolled and $70 if you are not enrolled. If an IUD or implant is going to be inserted a follow up appointment will be made with a nurse and a GP at an appropriate time in your cycle. This cost will vary depending on the type of IUD or implant and can be quoted at the first appointment.
